What we offer

We see the skills and knowledge within the StoryWorks team as a palette on which we draw and then develop the most appropriate approach in response to the goals of a particular project or organisation. In many cases the development of the work is collaborative and bespoke. Below are some examples of the key areas and methods that we most regularly draw upon.

•  Digital Storytelling

•  Media training

•  Staff Training Days

•  Consultancy and Research

•  Monitoring and Evaluation

•  Focus Group Facilitation

"Very motivating day.  I find myself enthused and inspired and very much wanting to go out and start gathering stories from our service users.  I can see various uses for this type of activity... I would love to see other staff from my organisation enjoying a day like this."

"Really useful - generated ideas for how I can use this in my role. Really good trainer, took the time to answer everyone's questions. Nice informal atmosphere."

- Participant in the Caerphilly County Borough Council workshop "An Introduction to Storytelling in Organisations"

Digital Storytelling:

With nearly ten years of experience at the BBC and in education as well as a number of awards in this field we are able to offer a range of digital storytelling forms to suit any project.

Digital storytelling uses accessible tools of multi-media production to enable people to share their stories in new ways. Digital Storytelling has been shown to be an extremely powerful methodology for gathering and disseminating stories based on real-life experience.

We run bespoke training workshops and also gather individual stories in a range of formats including text, video, multimedia and audio.

Our digital stories have been utilised in many ways. Some examples would be conference presentation; lobbying for policy change; to spark dialogue and discussion; for Life Story work and to enhance evaluation methods.

We have also adapted our methods based on the digital storytelling model to produce teaching materials, booklets and podcasts.

Some examples can be found in our Portfolio .

Media Training:

We see passing on our skills to others who hope to use stories to deliver campaigns, find new forms and inspire better service as essential to StoryWorks' success. This can take the form of Staff Training days (link) where we deconstruct the power of story, but also through practical training in the key techniques and technologies.

Over the course of a one, two or three day workshop we can provide practical training that can include some or all of the below:-

•  Story Gathering

•  Interview Techniques

•  Script writing

•  Script editing

•  Sound Editing

•  Video Editing

•  Post Production

•  DVD authoring

•  Ethical considerations

Staff Training Days

We can create half-day or full-day sessions to suit your organisation. Some examples of possible training sessions are:

•  An Introduction to Storytelling in Organisations

•  Listening to patients, Improving Care.

•  Making Sense of Stories

We run sessions which explore the range of methodology being used to collect and share real life stories and offer some practical exercises to get you thinking about how you might approach story gathering in your work.

We can also facilitate sessions where service users share their experiences to staff members who can then use the opportunity to ask questions and reflect on the procedures they follow and the services they provide. This can be incredibly powerful and motivating for staff at all levels.
